I recently purchased a 1987 MB 300E.  191,000 miles on it.  The vehicle runs a little rough, with not much power.  When you get up to about 45mph it really loses power.  The tach at 50mph only reads 1000rpm.  At 70mph it reads 1500rpm.  What suggestions do you have?  The transmission is also jerks when shifting.  Is there a cheaper way to fix that than a rebuild?
The catalytic converter checked out fine.  And I have a new muffler on the car.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks

The first thing I would suspect is a bad Catalytic Converter.

Answer
Here are two possible answers and some threads that cover most likely issues.

A bad O2 sensor can cause loss of power.
A bad ignition coil can cause loss of power, you must replace it with the correct coil only.
