MG Car Repair: 1968 MGB Slave Cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, correct hole

Question
MG Car Repair: 1968 MGB Slave Cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, correct hole
Slave Cylinder
I have a 1968 MGB. As I came to a stop sign I attempted to put the car back in gear and couldn't do it. Anyway, I noticed fluid dripping underneath the vehicle as I depressed the clutch. There were small holes in the rubber boot of Slave Cylinder. I took the slave cylinder off paying close attention to how it was attached. I purchased another slave cylinder and noticed that the bleed screw was actually attached to the rear of the Slave Cylinder..which would mean I would need to attach the clutch slave cylinder hose underneath the slave cylinder as opposed the rear of the cylinder. This would cause the bleeder screw to be in the rear of the slave. I attempted to remove the bleeder screw and move it to, what I think, was the correct hole. However, I can't remove it. I'm not sure which is the correct way..could you assist? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Terry.  In your photo, the bleed nipple is in the wrong hole.  That is where the hose should go.  You must undo the bleed nipple and insert it in the other hole.  It should not be very tight - check that the thread has not been damaged.

You will find it easier to bleed the system if you fill the master cylinder before bolting the slave cylinder to the gearbox.  Let the slave cylinder dangle on the hose, and push the piston upwards with your thumbs to force any air bubble up through the hose and out via the master cylinder.  Much easier than using the bleed nipple.
