MG Car Repair: Wiring, mgb gt, wiring loom

Question
I recently bought a 1969 MGB GT, and I noticed afterwards that the headlights do not come on but all other lights seem to be working fine. Also the speedometer was working fine when I bought it, but I took it for a drive and it started bouncing around and then quit. I have no idea what the problems are.

Answer
The two problems are not related.  You are just unlucky.

I think you will find the headlamp problem is the switch on the dashboard.  If the headlamp flasher facility still works, then this usually means the switch is faulty.  Be careful when replacing the switch, because the brown wire at the back is permanently live with no fuse, and the dashboard is made of metal.  If they touch one another, you will have a burnt-out wiring loom.  I would disconnect the battery just to be safe.

The speedo fault is usually the cable.  They either come off the back of the speedo (screw it back on again) or the inner cable snaps (replace the cable).
