MG Car Repair: 76 ignition problem, timing pointers, distributor shaft

Question
Dear sir, a friend has an 76 mg u.s. version. someone installed a Mallory duel point ign. system. we are having troubles getting it to run correctly. the label on the front of the car says it is a b/c 110 c.u. engine. can you tell me what the firing order, dist. rotation, points gap and plug gap should be? unit runs very rough. also the coil (mallory0 is mounted upside down. is that correct? also, there are no numbers on the timing tab at the crank. can you tell me what is what? thank for your distinguished advice. Answer
Hi Dave,
The US version MG with a 110 (1.8 liter) engine is the MGB. which is a four cylinder engine. As all in line four cylinder cars the firing order is 1,3,4,2 . The distributor shaft turns counter clockwise. I don't know what Mallory recommends for point gap but I would guess .015" would work. The timing pointers are 5 degrees apart and the long pointer is TDC. You should use the specs on the sticker under the hood for timing as the sticker over rides what any book states.
