MG Car Repair: 1980 MGB, roadster factory, moss motors

Question
Hi Howard, I'm trying to restore 1980 MGB.Oh my!I need to get a new exhaust system what would you recommend.I have catalytic converter still. Also, what is the voltage stabilizer amps.20 or 30.? Is there a way I can check it to see if it is still good? Thanks for all you help! Debbie

Answer
Hi Debbie,
I wish you well on your restoration project. I don't have any preference on exhaust systems. I do recommend that you look at all available before purchasing any system. There are several options available. Some aftermarket competition exhaust make a "B" preform better and sound more like a real sports car. Most of the parts suppliers sell optional exhaust systems that will work with the CAT. I would talk to each supplier before deciding. (Moss Motors, Victoria British, The Roadster Factory and Engel Imports to name a few.)
As for the voltage stabilizer, amperage is 100% dependent on load (fuel and temp gauge) so amperage is a useless piece of information. The voltage stabilizer is a voltage regulator that keeps the available voltage supplied to both gauges at about 10 volts. So the only test you should make is to check voltage output to the gauges. (10 v)
I hope this helps, let me know.
Howard
