Mitsubishi Repair: Mirage 1997 Fuel pump

Question
Hi, we have a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage which packed up today.
Our local "roadside assist" people came and no fuel is
getting through and possibly a fuel pump issue.  Said it
could be the filter but rare for them to be completely
blocked.  Good spark getting to plugs.  How do I replace the
pump?  I have found the inspection panel under the back seat
and it looks like it is just a case of undoing the three
nuts, withdrawing the pump and replacing it.  Are there any
odd problems I can encounter?  Thanks - Jon

Answer
Jon,
You got it right.  There are just a few nuts that hold down the pump in place.  Once removed, you drop in the new pump.  A couple things to to watch out for is the fuel pressure and the fuel connection.  You must relieve the fuel pressure before you remove the old pump.  You can do this by removing the fuel cap, remove the fuel pump fuse, and try to start the car. When removing the fuel line connection, be very careful you do not strip it.  The last thing you want to have to do is repair a fuel line.  Most auto parts store sell a special fuel line wrench design to help prevent stripping or rounding out the nut.
Good luck!
