Mitsubishi Repair: transmission, transmission control unit, transmission shop

I have a 2000 Galant that acts like it is stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear when you put vehicle in drive.Where do I start with trouble shooting the problem?

This symptom usually means the car's transmission control unit has detected a problem with the car's transmission.  It usually makes the transmission operate in "limp mode" with locks it in 3rd gear so you can still get to where you need to go, but not let you accelerate or drive very fast to prevent further problems.  I would recommend you bring you car to a transmission shop to have it properly diagnosed.
