Mitsubishi Repair: steering, mitsubishi rvr, power steering pump

hi, I have a mitsubishi rvr sportsgear 95 , steering has suddenly gone very heavy and at the same time what i think is the dif has started whinning , not sure if the two are realated? Any clues as to where to start and does this model have asb brakes? if so is likely to be the culprit.
clueless and greatful for any help .:)

Charmaine: The belt is slipping that runs the power steering pump, have you checked the power steering oil level? If you find it is low you have to put power steering oil into it but the whinning sounds would be that belt please get it replaced if you don't it will break and then you will be stuck at the side of the road.
