Mitsubishi Repair: Mitz Diamante 93, home god, cruise control

On my way back from Seattle, I kept slipping out of DRIVE. 2nd and 1st work just fine. And I am able to stay in Drive if I am using cruise control. But, if I am just putting around town, it slips out of gear. I have to shift to 2nd gear then back into drive. This just started 2 days ago. My 'Check Engine' light came on, it could be related. But just not sure what would cause that, and what I can do about it. I want to be prepared when/if I go into the shop. Thank you!

Alea: Let's not give me an if I go to the shop, because if you don't with this problem. The computer will put your transmission into "safety mode" and you won't be going far at much of a speed. I would have the transmission fluid, filter replaced and put in some transmission conditioner too. Also have the shop check to see if switch that keeps it in drives is bad. But I would be working on the transmission first and then think about the switch. Did you know the computer of your car controls everything your car does, that is everything even the shifting of the transmission? So having the computer coded might explain the problem too. So lets get the car into a shop or dealership to get this fixed. Before you find yourself sitting along the road, wondering how you are going to get home. God bless: Linda
