Mitsubishi Repair: Do I need to change timing belt ane water pump at the same time for my Magan, labour cost, time william

Question
Hi Linda,

1, My mechanic now is changing timing belt for my Magana. He suggest me to change water pump as well. He said this way could save labour cost for possible water pump failure in the future. Is this ture for Magana 2.4L, 4Cylinder.

2, If the timimg belt doesnot work properly, in gerneral what error will happen? In another word, how can i judge the timing belt been replaced suceefully.

Thanks for your time.

Answer
William: Good idea as to get the water pump changed at the same time as the timing belt. If the timing belt does not work right, you car will not run right. It's timing will be off and even the mechanic could not send that car out the door if the timing belt was not on right. But if you are worried ask for the old timing belt and get the mehcanic to explain how it was sitting in the car and what he did when he put the new one on. Tell him you are just wondering is all, I mean it is your car. We all wonder about how things run in our cars.... I always say keep the shops honest ask for the old parts back and then ask them to show you how they went in the engine. Of course then you will have to give it back, well the water pump the core will have to be sent in. Well someplace want them back, but if not just throw it out when you get it home. But then you will know for sure and can sleep good knowing your car is ready for another 100,000 miles. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
