Mitsubishi Repair: 98 MITSUBISHI GALANT, mitsubishi galant, battery cables

Question
I HAVE A 98 MITS GALANT ES. IT HAS APPX. 190,000 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY, IN OCTOBER I GOT A NEW BATTERY PUT IN THE CAR. EVER SINCE THEN MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AND I SOON REALIZED THAT I NEEDED TO GO UNDER THE HOOD AND "GIGGLE" THE POST ON THE TERMINAL. IT WAS LIKE SLIDING OFF. WELL, IT STILL DOES THIS AND WHEN I'M STOPPED OR IN IDLE IT WILL 'NERVOUSLY' SHAKE AND SOMETIMES SHUT OFF AGAIN, EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I WOULD HAVE TO GET OUT AND REPEAT THE SAME STEPS. UNDER THE HOOD AND "GIGGLING". NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND WHEN I START MY CAR UP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE DAY IT DOES THE SAME "NERVOUS" SHAKING AND MOVES ABOUT 5 MPH EVEN THOUGH IT SPEEDDOMETEOR SHOWS ABOUT 30 AND IT SHAKES AND MAKES 'SHAKEY' NOISES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS...COULD YOU PLEASE OFFER ME SOME ADVISE? IS IT SOMETHING WITH MY BATTERY OR A SHORT OR SOMETHING MUCH WORSE?

Answer
Breanna: You need to take the car to a shop and get it coded for that check engine light. That would explain what the computer is picking up in the system and causing your car problems. You need to get two new battery cables for your car, because those cables need to be tight for that car to run, these little car are very touchy about how tight those cable have to be on the battery to keep the car going. But get those cables replaced, both of them, then get them tighten on that battery and also get your car coded to see what that check engine light means. Got an AutoZone close by? They will do this for free. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
