Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 eclipse will not idle, vacuum leak, battery work

Question
been having a fairly new problem with my eclipse, started about 2 weeks ago and now its bad and no one can tell me whats wrong. 2 weeks ago my srs light came on on the dash cluster never causing a problem but some worries. along with this light came the problem that when the ac was turned on and u stop the car, while it sits it looses an idle and stalls out. i was told to unhook the battery to get the light to turn out and when i did and put it back on, now the car will start but not stay running unless ur foot is on the gas. as soon as u stop pushing on the gas pedal the battery and brake light barely start flashing and the car stalls out. . there are no other lights that come on and no codes are flashed.. hooked up a computer diag. to it and it says no problems but there is something wrong cause the car will not stay running.. alternator and battery test come out to say they all good  so what would the problem be???

Answer
Jack: If the computer put the srs light on, it must have picked up a problem in the system. Did you have the srs checked out to see what the problem was? I would be checking to see if you have a short someplace. It sounds like that to me. In that you have a wire or wires touching and pulling the power away. I mean this is going to sound dumb to you, but have you checked the stark plug wires? How old are they, how about you replace them. Or how about a vacuum leak, but still I think this has something to do with power being pulled away. Such as the car sitting in idle, it will stall out. By unhooking the battery you cleared the computer but now you have no way of knowing why the computer picked up a problem with the srs. I would have taken the car in and had it coded then. It would have showed what the computer was picking up on. You might buy yourself a repair manual for your car, a voltmeter and starting with the battery work around the car's engine. You will need to repair manual to know what readings you should be getting and you might be able to find the short or problem. If ever this happens again in that the computer kicks on a light, such as check engine light; have the car coded before you clear the computer. Ok. I know you were only doing what someone told you to do. But the computer kicks on those lights because it picks up a problem in the system. With battery and brake light kind of coming on, still makes me think of a short. But the voltmeter would help you find that. I work on mostly older cars so what is "srs" anyway? One more thing have your fuel pump tested to make sure it is putting out enough fuel. A lot of people are running their cars down to empty before filling them up. And have been replacing a lot of fuel pumps. The fuel is what keep the pump cool, so don't go below 1/4 tank to often. But I understand wanting to get enough out of one's tank with the high cost of fuel. Ok, well keep me posted on this. Take care now: Linda
