Mitsubishi Repair: 03 Montero LImeted Headlight Problem, high beams, low beams

Question
Yesterday I noticed that my driver side lowbeam headlight and parking light were not working, however, the turn signal and the highbeam are working.  I tried switching out the lowbeam and high beam fuses, but there was no change.  That makes me think that it is not a fuse problem, but it is odd that the parking light and low beam function both stopped working at the same time.  I am puzzled.  this acts like some kind of short, but I would love your opinion.

Answer
Jeff: You said the lowbeam headlight and parking light were not working but the turn signal as well as the highbeams are working. Are the turn signal and parking light are they running off the same bulb? You know don't you that the low beam can often burn out but the high beam will still work. Because they run off different parts of the bulb. So if the parking light and the turn signal are two different bulbs, then you might have a burnt out bulb. If not then it could be a short or it could be a relay in your car that is bad. There should be when you open the hood of the car, a black box up on the fire wall on the driver's side of the car. In it is relays and larger fuses then inside your car. But if all those are ok, and it is not bulbs, then yes you most likely have a short. But they are often hard to find. So you will need a shop or dealership to find it. It could be a wire that feeds the power to both the headlights and the parking lights has crossed somehow. It could have blew out the low beam light and the parking light but left the turn signal and the high beams there. I wish you would check the bulbs, to make sure they are are not set up, well the bulb has one part for the low beams and one part for the high beams. Or the parking light, the bulb has one part for the parking lights and one part for the signals. I don't know what that part is call on the bulb that the power runs on to make lights. I work on cars not light bulbs, but check that too, would you? Sorry, it is late and I am tired. But hope this helps you some and good luck! Happy Easter too. Linda :o)
