Mitsubishi Repair: engine problam, throttle position sensor, mitsubishi eclipse

HI i had ask a question about my oil rings and the erratical idle a few days ago, it was for my 1990 Mitsubishi eclipse turbo awd and i had done a compression test and the numbers are #1-175 #2-150 #3-150 #4-130, they seem kind a out of whack to me?

Matt: Have checked into a few things, I see that there is a sensor that controls your idle it is called a Throttle Position Sensor so that might what is messing with your idle. But looks like me that you should replace your rings too. Don't know the miles on your car, but you know that once someone opens up your car's engine they might find other things to be fixed. But if you are going to do the rings, you could have the engine rebuild and it would be almost like getting a new engine. Well if you are going to do the work yourselt it would save on the labor costs too. Hope this helps and good luck!

I did rebuild my engine and when i put it back together all this stuff started to happen, the tps is new i had replaced the throttle body, like i said it only idles bad when your driving and coming to a stop as you put in the clutch but if its just idle in in the driveway it idles perfect, i also would like to no why the oil turns black really fast in a rebuilt motor like it only take a few days and new oil looks black like really black? thanks

Matt: Wish I could help you more with this. But I would say there is a "break in" time when you rebuild something. Like when you buy a new car, you have to let the engine get broke in. I still would check the timing. The car idles fine in the driveway but is a mess when you drive it. So then you have to think what it takes for that car to go down the road. So I will throw out more ideas from my book..fuel filter clogged, low fuel output at the injectors(try cleaning the injectors), wrong stark plugs or not gapped right, incorrect ignition timing, cracked distributor cap, disconnected distributor wires or damaged distributor components, leaking stark plug wires, faulty emission system components, low or uneven cylinder compression pressures, weak or faulty ignition system or vacuum leaks.. I wish I could help you more. But this is all I can come up with right now. As long as you put it back together, I would have someone else check things out with you. Sometimes a friend will see something that you missed. I am not saying you did not do a good job. But rather you might have missed something that this other person would see or hear even. I often than not get one of my sons to come to check out my work when things are not going as I think they should. They sometimes see something or hear something that I missed.
