Sorry I don't keep a repair book, but I will start soon.I did not get the reason why the coolant reservior get full whilst that in the radiator reduces signifiacntly.What can this be.?Can it be that the circulation is not working,? if so how is it corrected?

I noticed that the tempreture reading on my dashboard has been rising and staying at the middle of the guage. I usually don't have the tempreture at that level so i did further checks.My co-lant was going down very fast and i have to top up now and then.I have hard my radiator tank washed and there is no evidence of any leakage to me. My mechanic made me change my headgasket but i am still having this problem.In anycase, i have also noticed that whilst the coolant in the radiator tank is reducing that in the resevoir is increasing. Please i need advice seriously.
My mechanic says the water pump is ok. what shd i do?

Larry: I know with a water leak you could get to the point of pulling your hair out trying to find it. But hang in there you will. I am only giving you some ideas on what you might look for, I like to know the miles of a car. But then I tell people to always get a repair book on their cars, it gives you ideas, how to look and where to look. I will start with an easy one have the radiator cap pressure rate checked, believe it or not that is very important for keep the water in your car. Then cracked or leaking cylinder sleeve or cylinder head, engine drain or water jacket core plugs leaking, inaccurate temperature gauge sending unit, thermostat sticking, water pump drive-belt defective/out of adjustment, maybe you will have to replace all the hoses might be a very small hole in one of them or your coolant reservoir bottle is leaking. Once your car starts and the system gets the pressure it needs to move the water, then it is leaking. Hope this helps and good luck!
AnswerLarry: To me that sounds like your thermostat is stuck, because it is not lets the water return to the radiator to be cooled once water goes through the engine. By not letting the water return to the radiator it ends up in your reservoir and so you end up with more water in that then the radiator. So try changing the thermostat, you can go with a cooler one or a hotter one, but best check that book to see what it tells you, that you need. Also you need to check those belts to make sure the waterpump is getting the power it needs to work. If the shop said the waterpump was ok, then something else is causing it not to work. But yet I would change that thermostat, they don't cost very much and will often fix the problem. Hope this helps and good luck!
