I am trying to find the engine control unit and self diagnosis connector with no sucsess.  I have a haynes manual, but this is not very accurate could you please help me locate them. The vehicle rpms also drops some times, and then slowly recovers to normal rpm there is also back fireing in the exhaust during deceleration could these be connected.

Thanks

Answer
Marc,
The Shogun was not a model that was sold in the US, but it's very similar to the Montero.  And on the 1992 Monterol the ECU is located near the firewall on the right side of the car.  In the US, this is on the passenger side kick panel.  For the Shoguns sold in the in the UK where the driver sits on the right, it may be in the same place.  But you can check both areas.  You can even visit or call your local Mitsubishi dealership parts department, and they will be able to tell you exactly where it is.
Good luck!
