Mitsubishi Repair: problem with car stalling, mitsubishi mirage, crank sensor

Question
Hello.  I know that you are very knowledgeable about the Mitsubishi Mirage, but I was hoping you had some knowledge about Eclipses as well.  I thought it was worth giving it a shot.

I have a 2001 Eclipse V6.  I was having problems getting the car to start.  I had to hold the key in for a long time for it to click over and start.  it got worse and worse (this was in the same day).  The batter was tested and it was drained, so this was replaced.  The car starts now, but it stalls.  If you try to start it a few seconds later it doesn't start right away.  The air filter doesn't seem to be jammed.  Any idea on what could be causing this to occur.  There is 40,000 miles on the car.  The altnerator was tested and this seems to be ok.  I've had problems iwth the car since I got it.  Recently, the car would stall if I was in park and had the car running and now it stalls all the time, and I cannot drive it.

Answer
Hi Jen

Wow you are having trouble with this car i feel for you sweetie,I would try having the starter tested and replaced if needed since it stalls alot which helps the engine crankover or it could be the crank sensor has gone bad and need replacing. If the cranksensor is bad that will required to remove the oilpan .Try the starter first and have it tested and if it's ok let me know and i'll do some research where i work that also works on cars that have problems like your having and help you get past this frustration of yours.
