Mitsubishi Repair: 95 mirage L coupe, srs system, airbag system

Question
The SRS light recently came on after battery replaced and now car battery will not hold a charge.  Have jumped battery and car will start but when I attempt to drive it, it cuts off, and is completely dead again. Car bought used three years ago with 149,000 miles and driven to and from local school. Recently garaged for last three months while I was away at college. What could be the problem?

Answer
Rebecca,
You mentioned you "replaced" your battery.  If that means that you bought a brand new battery and installed it, than take the battery back to the store you bought it from and get another one.  It should be a free replacement if it was new and cannot hold a charge anymore.

If the battery you put in your car was old, then you may just need a new one.  If it's the original battery for the car, chances are good you do need a new one.

But if the battery is new, and the SRS light always stays on, and your battery continuously drains until it's dead, then you may have a short circuit somewhere in your Airbag System.  If that's the case, the SRS system should be checked by a qualified technician.  If you live in an area that require annual safety inspection, then your will not pass if that SRS light remains on.  Also, have your alternator checked.  Sometimes if your car's charging system is not operating correctly because of a bad alternator, your SRS can illuminate.
Good luck!
