Motorcycle Repair: handlebars, handlebars, steering

Question
I have a 03 750 shadow that i got used and it had a bar on each side for handlebars, that are known for snapping off, witch mine did while i was riding on the highway.I need to buy some new ones but im not sure what all i need if i get the ones with the extension coming off, of them what else do i need and if i get just the bar i need the extension plus what else?

Answer
Hello Manuel,

I'm surprised and shocked!!!
I've never, in my almost 30-year-long career, seen handlebars with detachable bar-ends on chopper-type bikes!
The ones you're referring to, I'm sure, have no public road safety homologation.
Except if I didn't got it right, and you mean just an inch long extension...

Under no circumstances should the whole handle lie on an extension.
Steering on bikes like yours is heavy, due to increased rake and trail. Therefore the handlebars
take a lot of stress, especially at standing/parking maneuvers. Add some vibrations in the mix and the result can be fatal.

You should look for one-piece handlebars, that suit your riding style and try NOT to save money on it!!!
From Superbikes to Choppers and Motocross to mopeds, quality, safety and cheap never go together when it comes to steering and handling.

Get back to me, if I've misunderstood something or if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,
Lazaros.
