Motorcycle Repair: general engine question/wierd problem, vapor recovery equipment, kawasaki bikes

Question
I have a 2001, kawasaki EX500R
14k miles on it, and just changed the oil, checked the sparkplugs for wear and proper gap etc, cleaned out the gas tank, cleaned the fuel filters that go in it, and checked all the air intakes for grime etc...

Problem: motorcycle stops running.
Engine starts perfectly normally, no issues, no second-3rd tries, no wierd sounds or grinding or whining.
once running, sounds fine to me. (i'm not a master though, i am not the best with engines.)

Once it runs for a good 2 minutes, the revs start going down steadily, increasing the choke or the throttle do absolutely nothing. then it dies, just stops. i have no clue why, and i need to fix it! have any clues?

Answer
John, this may sound weird but I have just worked on one that had the same problem. The gas cap was a Califonia model on a 48 state bike. Some how the vent in the cap would not allow it to breath properly and it would vapor lock and die. I found the info on this problem on the internet and it showed me the breakdown of the cap and what to look for. I put a new fuel cap on and it cured my venting problem. Kawasaki bikes are built in Lincoln Nebraska but if its a Calif. model it gets different evaporative and vapor recovery equipment, Just check into it first before spending any money.
