Motorcycle Repair: 1974 TX500A Yamaha., carburetor overhaul, float valves

Question
My '74 Yamaha stills runs like a top, but when I come home and put it in the garage, gas drips out of a hose at the bottom of the right side carburetor.  If I see the puddle underneath the bike and turn off the tank petcock to "stop" , it then stops.  Any idea of might be causing this and how to fix it?  As you might guess, it is getting more difficult to get parts now to fix things.

Answer
Jim, because of the age of your bike, the float valves inside the carburetors are getting worn, where the needle/seat come together to shut down the fuel. The float level may also be a little too high on that side, as well.

Probably time to track down a set of gaskets/float valves and jets to do a full carburetor overhaul, which should cure your leaking carb issue. If you park the bike on a side stand (rather than the center stand) the overflow issue can be aggravated, too.
