Motorcycle Repair: honda 5occ carc, air fuel mixture, air screw

Question
i have an 03 Honda 50. took the carb apart and didnt count the turns on the air fuel or the idle screw.bike runs good until 3/4 throttle then starts to studder.turn the choke on about a 1/4 runs great. how many turns out on the air screw is stock? Is the air screw the one above the idle screw?

Answer
Eric, The air screw is the one thats in line with the air/fuel mix going into the nanifild. Also the air/fuel mixture screw is pointed to seat off in the body. Start off with the screw at 1 to 1 1/2 turns out from seated. The idle screw is blunt on the tip to hold the slide up. Its usually the upper screw. Set the idle speed first the turn the mix screw in slowly untill the bike starts to stumble or die. Then start to back the screw out untill it smooths out,if the idle gets to high back it out also to the desired speed the continue to back the mixture out untill it smooths out. It should not be more than 3 turns out or its getting to much fuel. A rule of thumb is the mixture screw works at idle to about 1/4 throttle the needle in the slide controls the fuel from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle the the main jet can take over at just under 3/4 throttle to wide open.
