Motorcycle Repair: How Far Out Should The Clutch Lever Engage ?, clutch lever, hydraulic clutch

Question
Hi Gary

Read you respones on how to adjust the clutch. You're right on the money with that.

My question please;

I want my clutch lever @ the handlebar to come-out about and inch and a half. Or two inches the most when the first gear engagage.

How do I get the measurement at the clutch lever. At the present time I open up my left hand too more than HALF before the bike start to move.

I want a SHOTER TIME for the clutch to engage.
HELP GARY !

Answer
Ray, Im not sure on this but here goes. Some bikes with a cable pull clutch may not be able to achieve what you need. A lot of the hydraulic clutch setups can back off the actuator bolt bringing the lever closer to the bar, If you have ever looked closely at some of the sport bikes (crotch rockets) these bikes have a numbered dial type wheel the can be turned to accomodate smaller hands as well a larger hands wearing gloves. Also some after market clutch lever and perch systems may have a geometry curve that might accelerate your clutch pull and not have to move the lever as far. Ive seen them on dirt bikes so I believe they have not left out the street bikes. Try a motor cycle supplier of parts and accessory items and see if they can be creative,let you look in a catalog to see if its something you would like.
