Motorcycle Repair: setting the timing, honda cbx, jackshaft

Question
Recently installed Dyna ignition. Does this in itself change the way you would set the timing(dynamically). In the manual it says"attach lead to #1 or#6 and turn motor over. F line should line up with seam in crankcase. My F line is at about 12oclock and moving the ignition plate one way or the other does not seem to effect it at all. Puzzled..and thanks for any tidbits of wisdom..

Answer
I am assuming (hoping) that you are talking about a Honda CBX engine.  First check that the jackshaft has been assembled correctly, if #1 or #6 is at top dead center, the T-line should be lined up with the seam in the crankases.  The F mark is the usual timing trigger point, which is a few degrees before top dead center (TDC)  Dyna ignition should not affect the trigger point, but if a previous owner mis-assembled the motor, the timing marks could be way off.  In a previous copy of the CBXPress there was an article on how to rectify this, but it can be tricky.  Good luck,  Jan
