Motorcycle Repair: HOW CAN YOU TELL IF ITS CEASED ?, plug holes, starter button

Question
Hi Gary

I haven't rode my Harley in about 4yrs. Its been covered-up
on my back patio.

Can you tell me how can I tell if the motor is CEASED-UP?

I just don't want to try an start it after all these years of not being run.

Is there something I can do manually to tell if the pistons are CEASED ?

Thank You Gary
GOD bless
Ray M.

Answer
Ray, Pull the spark plugs and put approx 2 teaspoons of transmission oil into each cylinder. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Leave the plugs out and position the plug wires out of the way and try to bump the starter button. If the engine turns over it may spit some of the excess oil out of the plug holes try not to be over the holes or you may get a shot of slime.
If it turns over Then put the plugs in and try choking it providing you have drained the carb of bad gas. Make sure you have fresh gas and it should start on choke. If you start it and it only runs on choke the the carb will need to come of and have the jets cleaned.
