Motorcycle Repair: 85 honda magna vf700, honda magna, float bowls

Question
i have an 85 honda vf700 magna that has been setting for 11 years, i cleaned the carbs and the fuel tank. the bike will start up and idle perfect. if u as much as look at the throttle it will stall. if you spray carb cleaner across the top of the breather you can throttle up as high as 9000 rpm. but if you dont spray carb cleaner it will stall when you touch the throttle. after it idles for 20-30 minutes you can accelerat to about 3500 to 4500 rpm for a few seconds before it stalls. i would like to know what i need to do to get this fixed

Answer
Ray, I may have more questions than answers for you here.

When you "cleaned the carbs" what does that mean exactly? Full rebuild or removing the float bowls and cleaning the jets? Did you clean out the air passages, main jet holder cross drilled holes and carb bowl vents?
Are all the carburetor slide diaphragms okay.. no pinholes/tears?
Did you clean all the deposits off of the carb needles
Is the choke system (starter valve-plungers) all installed and adjusted correctly?
Did you clean out the petcock passages?
Did you replace the fuel filter?
Is the fuel pump working?
Do you have spark at all four spark plugs? Fuel fouled spark plugs will cause misfires.
Did you replace the spark plugs and check the resistance values in the spark plug cap connections? Look for about 5k ohms resistance to about 10k measuring the whole wire.

It sounds like it is running lean, which could be from air leaks at the intake manifolds, evaporative system vacuum lines/diaphragms/valve. Something else to check is the gas cap venting controls. If the tank can't breathe or draw in air, the fuel will be in a vacuum.

Sudden stalling when the throttle is opened is usually due to a sudden lean condition, as the carb slides raise the needles in the needle jets.   OR
Weak spark at the spark plugs. Cracking the throttle open creates a momentary high voltage requirement at the plugs. If the coils are weak or you have high resistance in the plug wires/caps, then the sparks will fail to jump the plugs.

Did you check compression and adjust the valves?
