Motorcycle Repair: bike smoking, oil temperatures, filler valves

Question
I have a 1996 Harley Davidson Electric Glide, and it has begin to smoke. The smoke is coming out of the right tail pipe only. Thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
Lee, I don't know a lot about the brand, however the rear cylinder doesn't get the same cooling as the front, so the excess heat raises oil temperatures and thermal loading back there. Smoke, if gray and wet fouling the spark plug is usually due to either worn rings or loose valve guide clearances/stem seal wear.

Check compression to see if there is a lower reading on the back cylinder. A "leak down" test will determine if there is pressure loss at the rings (heard through the crankcase filler), valves (heard through intake or exhaust) or if nothing shows up there, then suspect the cylinder head for oil sourcing.
