Motorcycle Repair: vf 750 magna, vf 750, fuel monitor

Question
i just worked on this bike for a friend it did not run took carbs apart and cleaned all the jets then road tested it surges when taking off and at road speed i herd that there was a fix for this but is there

Answer
I have dealt with these bikes. Make absolutely sure you have the carbs synchronized. If not the the engine will struggle like it trying to pull it self apart until you are in the higher RPMs. The same goes for the adjustments of the carbs. If one is running more lean or rich than any other the other cylinders are trying to catch up. When adjusting the carbs listen to the engine. When it starts revving you are going the right direction with the screws. Also when doing this pay close attention to the cylinder temperatures. Get an infared heat gun they are invaluable when doing multi carb multi cylinder engines. The cylinder should run within 0-15 degrees of each other. That is about as close as you can get without an advanced air fuel monitor in the exhaust pipe of each cylinder. This should take care of the problem. Let me know how it works.
