Motorcycle Repair: 1990 Shadow VT1100, starter clutch, shadow vt1100

Question
My `90 shadow 1100 is giving me a headache. I recently started having starter issues. When start button is pressed it sounds as if the starter is just spinning but it does not engage. This mostly happens if bike is warm. When I start it cold I usually have a couple tries before this happens. If I jump start it... it turns over just fine.

I have replaced solenoid, battery and starter. Went through all wires to make sure they are clean a snug together as well as replaced all fuses but I continue to have this issue

Any advice?

Answer
Hi,  Your starter clutch is slipping.

First change the oil.  If that does not work, you will have to check/replace the starter clutch which is a fairly big job on a CBX but I don't know how difficult this is on a VT1100.  I would get a manual first if you are contemplating doing this yourself.
