Motorcycle Repair: rear cylinder cuts out, rear cylinder, coil pack

Question
QUESTION: 2004 road king clasic, fuel injected, started riding and after about 8 miles riding the rear cylinder cuts out, i thought i fouled the plug so i put a new one in, started and ran fine, rode for about 8 miles it happened again, let the bike cool for about 10 minutes, started ran fine for about 4 miles, parked it went and got trailer, started fine drove into trailer, got to shop unloaded started fine. put on dyno on cruise reached 8 miles rear cylinder cut out, did wire test, resistance was off, replaced coil pack and wires, started ran on dyno at 8 mile rear cylinder cut out, let cool down, started ran on cruise monitering the spark and when the rear cylinder started to cut ou the spark apears to be ok, seems like a fuel problem, but it must be electrically related because of the fuel injection and the problems happen after the motorcycle heats up. no help in the service manual, Just purchased the electrical book with the schematics, can you suggest a starting point or have had any experiences or solutions.

ANSWER: Did you run a dianostic on the bike? If you didnt, you should. There are so many thing that can be wrong it would be hard to to determine waht it is without it.It almost sounds like your ECM is getting hot, but I wouldnt change it until you run the dianostic.

QUESTION: Mike,
I ran the speedometer test, got a P1136 code for no combustion in rear sylinder, no other codes. The diagnostics in the book basically check the coil, wires, and plucs, which I have replaced. By the way the bike has 26,000 miles if that helps. Can the ecm heating up affect the electronics system for efi. Having no other codes what would the next step be?

Answer
Your EFI can short on one cylinder. Since your getting spark, I would start by checking to see if you have power to the fuel injector. If no power then follow the wiring back to the EFI to make sure there are not breaks or shorts.
Good luck and happy riding
