Motorcycle Repair: engine kill switch, honda xr250r, road bikes

hi i hope you can help me, i have a honda xr250r i'm very confused on how the kill switch works. I always thought that as it is, there is no complete circuit and the engine can start and when you press the button the circuit is complete and turns off the engine. Am I right  or does it instead  break a circuit to switch the engine off?

On some bikes, like motoX bikes, the kill switch makes contact and shorts a connection to kill the engine.  On road bikes, the kill switch makes a circuit to allow the engine to run, and breaks the circuit to kill the contact.  It depends on the type of bike; your manual electrical diagram will show the particulars for your bike.  Good luck,  Jan
