Motorcycle Repair: Super E Carb adjustments, layman terms, carb adjustments

Question
QUESTION: Hello Mike,
I have a 1983 FLH with a Super E carb. It was running fine until I brought to a wrench who "tried" to adjust it. Do you know how I can put the settings back then adjust from there> I am not a wrench, so any answer would have to be in layman terms.
Thanks for any help.....

ANSWER: Do you happen to know what he did when he adjusted it? Did he change any jets? Pull your plugs and let me know what color they are

QUESTION: Mike,
Seems all he did was pull the carb apart and cleaned the pieces.  I didn't see everything he did, but he its running real rough now.

Answer
First thing you need to determine is if its the carb or somthing else. Since your plugs are fouled it could be either the coil and plug wires or the carb itself.
You can do a OHMs test on the coil and plug wires to make sure they are good. If they are ok, then the carb need looked at. Fouling of plugs is a sign that, if its the carb, the jets are to large so you would need smaller jets. To set the carb go to the S&S web site and in the tech pages you will find the procedure on setting and jetting the carb.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
