Motorcycle Repair: 1998 Sporster gas tank removal, tank removal, gas tank

Sporstertodd: I have a 1998 883 Hugger. The gas tank needs to be painted. How do I drain the tank and remove it?  Any advice on both is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Errol

Theres no cross over line on your tank so just unhook the fuel line from the carb and then remove the forward and aft mounting bolts and lift the tank off. After you have it off, take the cap off and turn the tank upside down over a funnel that goes into a gas can to drain.
