Motorcycle Repair: Replacing a clutch cable, clutch cable, bell crank

Question
I've got a 1973 CL 350, and the clutch cable snapped yesterday. I've ordered a
new cable. My Clymer manual shows how to adjust the clutch cable, but it does
not show how to replace the cable. What steps do I take in replacing  the cable?
Thanks.

Answer
That's not too difficult.  First, you have to pull the left rear crank case cover that the cable goes into.  It's a pain to work behind the exhaust but it can be done without removing the exhaust. You will probably have to pull the foot rest off and the shift lever to get the cover off. Once you get the over off, I think it's pretty obvious what you have to do to replace the cable. There's a bell crank mechanism inside that you have to attach the cable to.  Make sure you don't loose the 8mm steel ball in the clutch lifter bore.  Those will often drop out without notice and you put it together an it won't work anymore.  Use a little grease to hold the ball in while you position everything back in place.
