Motorcycle Repair: CL175 carb specs, cl engine, honda cl175

Question
Hi Rich,

I own a 1972 honda CL175 K6.  However it has a 1971 CB175 motor in it and
a 1971 CL175 exhaust.

I know CB motors required #98 main jets and #38 slow jets.  CL motors
required #90 main jets and #38 slow jets.

Why the difference, aren't they basically the same motors?  Do they require
different main jets because of the different exhaust setups?  Should I use #98
main jets because I have a CB motor in it?

Also what is the factory carb setup for this bike?  Main jet, slow jet, needle
clip position, etc.  When I got the bike the carbs were all messed with.  I want
to get back to factory recommended specs for most reliable running.

What cutaways are used?  My left carb has the #'s 155 and 25 on the bottom
of the cutaway, the right 156 and 25.  How do I know if I have the right
needle?  It has the # 062303 on it.

As of right now this is my carb setup.  #98 main jets, #35 slow jets, needle c-
clip in middle position (3rd position from the top out of 5 positions).

Any good websites that would offer tips on tuning and carb specs?

thank you for your time,

Derek

Answer
I can help with part of your problem.  The CL engine's exhaust was tuned for a little more mid range torque so it needed less top end air and hence the smaller main jets. The CB was tuned for more top end power with a little more free flowing exhaust so it had the larger jets.

The needles have the clips in the center position for the stock setting.  As far as the other jet sizes, the 38 low speed jet is pretty typical for Hondas. Beyond that I'm afraid I don't know the part number or jet sizes without a manual or parts book.
