Motorcycle Repair: custom headlight removal, feeler gauge, dome lamp

QUESTION: I am trying to remove the slip ring off the headlight to get to the wires to wire the handlebars...can you tell me how to remove the ring without scratching it?  thanks

QUESTION: its a new custom.  i purchased the headlight from a chopper shop that went out of business..its a 5 1/4 dome lamp, two wire lead.  i can get a feeler gauge under the snap ring but do not want to break or scratch something.  is there a special tool or technique i should be using?  thanks again.  Mike

I am not sure how it removes, but usually that type pops off and is just attached by a clip. Generally, it has to be pried off to remove it. If you know that brand you can contact the manufacture. They should be able to help you
