Motorcycle Repair: 1986 Harley 883 Alternator Magnets, clutch basket, harley 883

Question
I recently learned from the Internet that the alternator's permanent magnets inside the clutch basket can become detached.  A new clutch basket is very expensive; around $500.  I thought that I had a pretty bulletproof engine with no problems at 30,000 miles and it is disappointing to learn of this design weakness.

1.  What are the chances of these magnets becoming detached as the bike ages?

2.  Are replacement clutch basket alternator magnets assembled better to keep this problem from repeating if it should occur on my bike?

3.  Has moving the alternator from the clutch basket to the crank end, repaired this problem?

Answer
the magnets becoming detached is not really common, but it can occure. Nothing is bullet proof and parts can brake at anytime.
The chances of them coming detached are pretty slim. Moving the magnets doesnt change anything, they still spin with the motor at he same speed.
Good luck and happy riding
