Motorcycle Repair: oil leak, harley shovelhead, piston rings

Question
I have a 75 harley shovelhead sportster. I have an oil leak that I can not locate. Also it seems like my front cylinder is not firing properly, it fires once  every 3 seconds accompanied by white smoke. are these 2 problems related the oil and the front cylinder ? what do you think the problem might be?

Answer
First, clean the motor really good and let it dry. Spray some deoderant that has baby powder in it on the motor. Where the leak is the powder will turn black and then you know where the leak is.
If your front cylinder is not firing correctly then do a OHMs test on the coil and plug wires. Check your plug, if it oily then you have oil going into the cylinder from either the piston rings or the valve guides. Do a compression test and a bleed down test to check the cylinder
Good luck and happy riding
