Motorcycle Repair: clutch problem?, clutch plates, honda motorcycle

i have a 83 goldwing,that for the last couple of years has been difficult to shift into neutral.now it is becoming almost impossible.if i'm in first gear,i have to kick the shifter up with my heel to get it to pop up into neutral.kicking down from third,it sticks and when i kick down harder it goes down into first.otherwise the clutch to work fine shiffting up and down.i appreciate any advice you could send my way.

Gary, Wings are not my specialty. First, you may just need a new clutch, if you have it adjusted properly and it isn't working.

Usually, when bikes have problems finding neutral, either the shift selector parts are worn/loose or the clutch is dragging the gears around. Clutch plates that are warped won't disengage all the way, causing drag on the drivetrain, preventing selection of neutral.

Some people find that synthetic oils help these bikes to shift smoother, overall, but that is with everything else working as designed.
