Motorcycle Repair: 85 vt700c clutch problem, clymer manual, clutch plates

Question
My bike had been sitting for a while when i bought it.  I changed all fluids cleaned master and slave cylinders, bled properly.  Now the clutch works for a while but eventually it begins slipping until it wont engage at all and i have to relieve the pressure with the bleeder valve.  Following that it will work for a while until it once again starts slipping.  I have a clymer manual but don't know what the problem is so that i can fix it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Josh,

-if your clutch is working ok after you
re-open the bleed screw it likely
has a pressure relief hole plugged
in the bottom of the master cylinder.

-The fluid pressure has to be released so the
clutch can hold. If the master cylinder relief hole is plugged
the slave cylinder can not release the
clutch.

If the clutch plates are bad it will
eventually slip all the time.
Another possibility might be a bent
or sticky clutch push rod, which goes
through the center of the clutch.
This is what the slave cylinder pushes
on to release the clutch.

Also plugged areas in the lines or plugged banjo bolts
or collapsing clutch hoses are possible.
