Motorcycle Repair: 1986 Suzuki GS550ES Motor, suzuki gs550es, ebay

my 86's motor is blown, i need to know what year motors will interchange??? i have found one on ebay, but it is a 78?? and possibly bigger/smaller cc's will fit?

Dan,

to save yourself alot of work
stick to engines made from about
1983-1986. Early engines have
some design differences like
8 valves instead of 16 and
also the early engines use contact
point ignitions instead of
electronic ignition components.
This means you would need to
change the whole wiring harness and
the coils etc.
Most of the air cooled 550 engine crankcases
are similar but the heads and carbs differ.
