Motorcycle Repair: jetting and filters, chain and sprockets, plug colors

Question
I have a 1982 cb 750k and I have a ker ker 4 into 1 pipe and I was thinking about installing new filters like k&n and I would like to know which type of filter would be best and what type of jets should I get I also need a new chain and sprockets and was wondering what I should get. My friends ride bmw's and we do long distances at speeds averaging 140k

Answer
Jim,

-your bike will run quieter and better
with a K&N HA-1079 original replacement
filter. These fit in your original air-box.
They cost a third of the pod type.

-The little pod types are hard to
put on and make more noise and are harder
to tune properly which just adds up to less
power and more problems jetting.

-you may want to go up one size on the pilot and main jets
from whatever is in there now. If the
jets were changed when the pipe was installed
you may not need to do anything with the jets.
Check your plug colors for clues on
jetting changes. Color charts are online at NGK.

-you probably do about 4000 rpm at 60mph
or so now. I suggest going up a tooth or
two on the front sprocket to lower
the highway engine rpms. You could
instead decrease the size of the rear
sprocket 6 teeth or so. This will
gear the bike higher for highway use.
