Motorcycle Repair: Bandit 600 Fuel system, suzuki 600 bandit, bandit 600

Question
Hi,I don't know if you can help me. I have just bought a 1997 Suzuki 600 bandit. Is it normal for fuel to leak out of the bottom of the bike when the fuel tap is put in the PRI position? (12 o'clock RES,3 o'clock PRI, 6 oclock ON).   Cheers.

Answer
Hi Justin,
The fuel position "PRI" Stands for Prime, which in turn allows fuel to flow freely through the petcock. This is normally only used when the carbs have been empty for you ran out of fuel. When you have the petcock in the other positions, vaccuum is what allows fuel to get to the carbs. Normally the bike was only designed to hold the fuel that the vaccuum will allow, but when flowing freely, sometimes the float needles cannot hold back the extra fuel..

Hope this helps!
