Motorcycle Repair: GS 400, suzuki gs400, engine crankcase

Question
Hey I asked a question about a week ago on a 1978 Suzuki GS400 engine. It was about the vacuum/breather/gas lines. I have it hooked up on the go kart now, got it running without plugging the vacuum lines in anywhere. After I ran the engine for a while oil started to leak out of the breather hose pretty rapidly. The only problem I could think of was too much oil, but I didn't know if there was maybe something else wrong. Oh and the only way we could get it to run off choke without the vac lines plugged into anything (cause i still couldnt find anywhere to plug them in) was to clamp shut the breather hose. It was shooting oil before we clamped the hose shut tho. Thanks, Kyle.

Answer
Kyle,

-you have to plug any open vacuum lines or the engine
will suck air and lean out the fuel mixture.
Any vacuum lines that need plugging will
have suction with the engine running.

-the breather hose should be open and usually
just runs into the air filter box.
The engine crankcase has pressure when
running and needs this open for venting.

-was the engine tipped over at any time?
Oil may have accumulated in the top
end and now it is blowing the excess
out the breather tube.

-drain some oil out if it is overfilled.

-carb jets have to be cleaned so you can see
through them.

-the hoses on the bottom of the carbs are
left hanging down and open.

-is the engine in good mechanical condition?
A faulty piston/rings is the only other reason for
blowing oil out the breather tube.
Check compression is 130 psi or higher.
Could be stuck rings if it has been sitting long.
