Motorcycle Repair: gettin to the battery, key lock, rear seat

HEy man I got a dumb but crucial question. I got a 1997 Ninja 900R. Im trying to get to the battery so I can jump it off but I cant get the seat off to get to it. I know I have to put the key in the key slot to get the passenger seat off but I cant figure out how to get the seat I sit on off.

-first remove the rear seat as you said, it is held by
the key lock. Turn the key counterclockwise
and pull the rear seat up at the rear and
pull backwards.

-near the rear of the front seat is a bolt
and bracket to remove. Once this bracket
is off you pull the seat up and backwards.
