Motorcycle Repair: Honda VT250 Magna fork oil, honda magna, honda vt250

Question
QUESTION: I'm rebuilding the front forks on a 250 Honda Magna, circa 1995.  Can you please tell me the correct volume of fork oil I should use per fork?  Many thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Christopher,

-there are alot of variations in this model,
but around 1994-95 they should use about
12.5 us ounces per fork.

-The older model VT250 (88-89) held 10.3 oz and the
VT250F held 9.5 oz per fork.

QUESTION: Thank you for the help.  Can I assume then that the volume is pretty critical, and that even a little more or less will have a significant effect on the forks' performance?

Answer
Christopher,

an ounce or two will not hurt anything,
it may be slightly stiffer or be less
likely to bottom out if overfilled slightly.
Oil level is not really critical but may
affect the forks performance one way or
the other. Better to stay close to
the manufacturers specs but don't worry
about being exact. Try to add the same
amount to each side so they balance out.
