Motorcycle Repair: stalling problem, yamaha fj, clutch lever

Question
I have 1984 yamaha fj 1100 the bike sat for two months now when I start the bike and pull the clutch lever in and attempt to put the bike into first gear it will stall. It will start back up once I take it out of gear but will stall every time I TRY TO PUT IT INTO GEAR. The side stand safety switch appears to be working any help would be great . Thanks Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,

Sounds just like a faulty sidestand switch, Had the same thing happen to a friend just yesterday....Anyway, I know it can be frustrating but it can only be a few different things.
A. Sidestand switch
B. Clutch saftey switch (located ON the handlebar lever)
C. Your clutch plates are all stuck together from sitting, They will litterally rust together. IF the bike lunges forward dramatically when you DO put it in gear, thats the case, If not, its just a faulty switch, one or the other..

Hope this Helps!
