Motorcycle Repair: 76 yam clutch ass., clutch springs, height measurement

Question
76 yam se 650 assembling clutch. clymer manual doesnot seem to have any torque spec or height measurement to screws that hold clutch springs on- tight. not big screws can't be tightened too much i'm sure. info appreciated

Answer
Guy/JW,

these screws have a shoulder on them so the
height and spring pressure is correct when
they are tightened all the way.
They are fairly small and usually can't
be torqued much at all. About 8 or 9 ft/lbs
is the max, much more and they will break
the clutch housing or strip.
Just make sure the clutch hub and outer clutch cover piece
are in place before the final tightening.
The cover or cap sometimes has notches in it
to fit over the hub splines. I am talking
about the big splines or grooves that the
plates sit on. This may only apply
to some models, possibly older.
