Motorcycle Repair: 1999 fatboy, charging battery, voltage test

Question
My Alternator is not charging battery.  How difficult is this to change?  What should I expect to pay if I don't do it myself?  Have not found a repair shop that i trust!

Answer
You have a stator not an alternator. First you need to make sure its the stator that is bad and not the regulator. Do a OHMs test on the stator and then a AC voltage test. If the stator passes then the regulator is bad.
In order to change it you have to remove the primary cover, motor sprocket and clutch assenbly. then you remove the rotor and it is behind it.
I am not going to be able to tell you how much it costs, due to the fact that shop prices are different all over the country.
Good luck and happy riding
