Motorcycle Repair: 87 Honda Shadow vt700 Turn Signal Problem, honda shadow vt700, filament bulbs

Question
I wouldn't consider myself as mechanically minded, but I can follow a service manual if need be. I purchased a Clymer manual when I bought the bike four years ago and have had success with a lot of other problems with the exception of this one: The front turn signals are lit but the rear turn signals are not. When I try to use the turn signals in the front, they go dark; for example, if I try to indicate that I am going left, the left front turn signal goes dark. I suspect that it might be an issue with the flasher but am having difficulty finding it on my motorcycle. The Clymer manual is from 1983-1987, yet has little information on the electrical schematics and information on the '87. I am considering bringing it into a shop, but would like to take on this project myself, especially if they simply tell me that I need to order a part and they charge me an hour's worth of labor. I have checked all the corresponding fuses and the rest ath I can get my hands on, all of them show they are intact. The bulbs are also in working condition, I can rotate the ones in the rear with the ones in the front and they still work. This is the first time I am using this service, and I do appreciate your time and advice. Thank you.

Answer
Manny,

Do you have the dual filament bulbs
in the front? They are 12volt 23 and 8 watts.
The rear are usually single filament 12volt 23watts.
The flasher is on the left side of the bike,
(when sitting on it) It is a little rectangular
shaped box with wires on the bottom.
There should be power to the flasher and then
it goes up to the signal switch where it
connects to right or left signal.
The power grounds through the light
and causes the flasher to flash the lights.
You may be able to use a test light to
see where the power is blocked, maybe
the fuse, flasher, wiring, or switch then
the bulbs.
